Subject : "Develop an agriculture that improves the quality of the soil"

I - The definition of our project

Our project is inspired by objective n°2 of sustainable development of the UN "Zero Hunger". This goal was established by the UN in 2015 and aims to end hunger and malnutrition in the world by 2030. This objective has challenged us and this is why we we have been looking into the matter.

It is true that the agriculture of the future is based on the ability of the and preserve the quality of agricultural soils in order to preserve and maximize and sustain productions. Today we know that tomorrow's objectives in terms of food and fight against hunger must be considered now so that soils can maintain their quality over time.

This is why we propose an application that will be able to detect the composition and therefore the quality of the soil when you walk around, when you are on the move or when you are searching for new arable land. The presentation of our project is described more precisely on our Glitch.

II - What did our mental maps teach us?

Our mental maps have allowed us to become familiar with the the world of agriculture and in particular with the question of the soil quality.

Indeed, it is a question that is too little known is however power plant. With poor soil quality, agricultural productivity is reduced. will necessarily end up decreasing, it is therefore central to think of disruptive ways to protect or repair it.

Our mind maps have opened our eyes on many subjects for example on the fukuoka method and the importance of adopting a agriculture adapted to the different types of soil, this research has enabled us to have greatly inspired the choice of our project.

"Under your Feet" and its innovative solution for determining the different types of soil using sattelite images and collaborative data

III - Wireframes and mockups

Once we had an idea in mind, we looked at the way it would be implemented. to work: What is "Under your Feet", how does it work? build our application? What are the functionalities that we used ?

We have thought of an application for growers, wishing to be aware of the evolution of their cultivable soils. But botre application can also be used for nature lovers who want to enjoy the nature. want to know what's going on under their feet their of a walkers or gardeners who want to improve their gardens or their vegetable garden.

Our application starts with a geolocation of the place where is the user, the application defines its position and gives him the composition of his soil. Our application indicates a many classic factors such as the percentage of quality or irrigation of the soil. For example, we can state the percentage of fertility according to the type of production (lettuce, potatoes, tomatoes...)

We are adding soil mineral data with explanations to their subjects. Finally, we advise users to to the subjects of their products. We advise them and we advise them keep them informed about the dangerousness of their products so that they can can best comply with the measures in force.

In addition to our huge database, we have completed our application by more social functionalities with a forum and a FAQ so that users can get answers to their questions. In addition to this, the many tips that our application can provide them.

On the design side, what are our choices concerning the design of our application ?

We have chosen a simple design, clean enough to make application easier to use and highlighting the main elements, i.e. soil components, products to be used for use etc., this makes the application more user-friendly and accessible to all. The navigation is rather easy and looks like of the majority of applications in vogue today (it just scan, slider, click). provide.

It was also important to select the information in order to not to overload the pages and thus not to drown the user in the news. For example, for the choice of agricultural products we we simply indicated with a color code that speaks for itself whether the the product was effective and good for the soil as indicated in the indications that the Yuka application for food could give.

IV - User tests

What have we learned from the user tests? Were they really conclusive?

The tests helped us to better understand a user's needs, indeed we were able to have different points of view whether it was on the design of the application, its usefulness or the yields that it can engender.

This has allowed us to have a rather broad perspective of evolution. for the application; in fact we have incorporated a certain number of functionalitiesq including a FAQ that made it much more lively and enjoyable, as it is possible to exchange and therefore really engage users.

We were also able to give another dimension to this application since it is not only used to know the composition of the soil and improve them, but it also tells us what our which productivity gains, and therefore productivity gains, can be achieved. income can we do by following the recommendations of "Under Your Feet".

V - Links to references

What were our inspirations?

By developing a benchmark based on the "Premier Jet" application we will have found a number of sources of inspiration, including scientific sites that aim to provide access to all the geological data, we have been able to draw on a great deal of experience in the field. part of the development of our application in these BRGM sites such as :

Apart from that, we can say that we have let ourselves inspire us by our personal work (mindmap) and by putting ourselves to the place of our potential users; we have often been in the position asked "What does not exist (or is not complete enough) and that I would really need".

WikiHow: We were largely inspired by this collection universal single guide system accessible to all in the construction industry of our application for the "ADVICES" part.

Yuka: We have exploited how this application, which has revolutionized the way we shop, works for feed the "Your Products" feature.

VI - Links to the different tools and technologies

Put random scihub links to soil databases, soil databases, and academic papers on GPS technology, use of iA with the images gps......

In this section, we would like to share with you sources that have either helped us or can be useful if we wish to go further :

Firstly, we can rely on the databases such as that of

This database is extremely rich (with maps, data, etc.). layer metadata, soil mapping studies, etc.).

Secondly, we helped each other and we will have in the future need to know all about GPS technology to be able to use it. geolocalize, for that we have various articles like this one or this .

Thirdly, we are interested in the use of Intelligence. Artificial to use the GPS satellite images collected by our users. We have therefore sought inspiration from other applications based on the same principle as in this .

VII - How could the project be improved?

We could improve "Under your feet" by multiplying and maximizing application data. We believe we can Push the social side of our application over time. The objective will be to strengthen communication and mutual aid between users of "Under your Feet".
